The Yeungnam University (YU) Ssireum Team has once again solidified its status as the top collegiate ssireum team. At the 2024 Korea Ssireum Association Awards Ceremony held on March 4 in Boeun County, Chungcheongbuk-do, YU's ssireum team was recognized as the Best University Team, while Head Coach HEO Yong was honored with the Best Coach Award.

The Korea Ssireum Association annually selects and awards teams and coaches who have demonstrated outstanding performance in each division. The top-ranked team in each category is presented with the Best Team Award and Best Coach Award. YU’s ssireum team, which previously received the University Achievement Award in 2022, has now won the Best University Team and Best Coach Awards for two consecutive years (2023, 2024), reaffirming its dominance in collegiate ssireum.

Head Coach HEO Yong expressed gratitude, stating, "This achievement was made possible thanks to the dedication of our coaching staff, including Coach LEE Seung-ho, the hard work of our athletes, and the unwavering support from the university, parents, and alumni association." He added, "Although our team is facing challenges due to injuries, we will overcome these difficulties and strive for continued success in the 2025 season."

Founded in 1954, YU’s Ssireum Team has produced numerous top-tier wrestlers, including HONG Hyun-wook, SON Sang-ju, and LIM Yong-jae, cementing its reputation as a powerhouse in Korean ssireum. Additionally, YU's Ssireum Team has contributed to various fields beyond the sport, including education, by producing over 200 distinguished alumni, such as KIM Sang-hyun (Department of Physical Education), who recently passed the 2025 Secondary School Teacher Certification Exam, continuing its legacy as a prestigious ssireum powerhouse.
